When it comes to fashion incorporating traditional style and design, traditional Assamese jewellery has become a house hold name not only in Assam but also pan-India and abroad. Banking on this idea and on her interest in traditional Assamese jewellery, a young energetic Assamese lady, Ms. Dikumoni Deka wanted to explore and contribute to making “Traditional Assamese jewellery” not only a National but also an International brand in fashion and design.
Ms Dikumoni started her journey by enrolling herself in a 6 months course supporting by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship in “Traditional and fancy Jewellery making” and undergoing this training she also completed a course on “Entrepreneurship Training Programme” under Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) supported by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Employment Generation Mission (EGM), Assam. Following these exposures, Ms. Dikumoni submitted her proposal for setting up her own Traditional Assamese Jewellery making unit to BYST which was approved. With the support of BYST from which she could set up her manufacturing unit of Traditional Assamese Jewellery by the name of “Aa-Alangkar” on 24th August 2013. There was no looking back for her since then and her numerous traditional Assamese jewellery designs has been widely acclaimed and accepted by young and old alike and her expertize is sought by several organization for designing jewellery for fashion shows. Ms Dikumoni is also associated with 2 organizations which are involved with social works and they are working towards supporting the rural communities for generating self-employment through capacity building workshops and awareness programmes. She has attended many Talk shows, Interviews and Women shows concerning women entrepreneurship both in print media and Electronic media for the last few years and her business entity ‘Aa-Alangkar ‘ has received the Best Women Entrepreneur under BYST, CII and EGM in 2016.
